The Emperor's Men 7: Rising Sun

The new submarine flotilla is the pride of the Japanese Navy. The maiden voyage of the newest boat not only attracts the attention of the Imperial family yet is at the same time a test for the selected crew. But shortly after departure, something mysterious happens: The submarine seems to sink and all crew members lose consciousness. When they awaken, they realize with horror that their boat has left its element. It rests on the top of a gigantic tomb for the King of Mutal, lord of the largest metropolis of the Maya, in the middle of the Central American mainland, some 1500 years in the past. The confused crew goes straight into war and faces the crucial question of where their path will lead them now – to an empire or straight into disaster?

Dirk van den Boom, geb. 1966 in Fürstenau, wuchs an der Nordseeküste in Wilhelmshaven auf. Er arbeitet als Consultant in den Bereichen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, Migrationspolitik und Sozialpolitik. Außerdem ist er Professor für Politikwissenschaft.
Sein erstes Romanhonorar erhielt er 1998 für einen Ren-Dhark-Roman aus dem "Projekt 99″ des Mohlberg-Verlages, 2000 startete die von ihm initiierte SF-Serie "Rettungskreuzer Ikarus". Er schrieb Romane zu den Serien "Rex Corda", "Die Abenteurer" und "Professor Zamorra" und ist regelmäßiger freier Mitarbeiter des SF-Magazins "phantastisch!". Von 2007 bis 2009 publizierte er seine ersten serienunabhängigen Romane, die "Tentakelkrieg"-Trilogie, die er mit einer zweiten Trilogie fortgesetzt hat. An der dritten und abschließenden Trilogie wird bereits gearbeitet. Darüber hinaus arbeitet er an einem "alternative history"-Zyklus namens "Kaiserkrieger", von dem bereits acht Romane vorliegen. Weitere Projekte sind seine SF-Krimis um seinen Helden Casimir Daxxel sowie ein Fantasy-Zyklus um den geplagten Lord zu Tulivar. 2016 begann auch seine Skiir-Trilogie bei Cross Cult. Er ist als Autor an der SF-Reihe "Die neunte Expansion" beteiligt und als Übersetzer für eine Reihe von Genre-Verlagen tätig. Er gehört zur Redaktion von phantastik-news.de und zu den Ausrichtern des Deutschen Phantastik Preises (DPP). Er lebt mit seiner Frau und seinen beiden Kindern in Saarbrücken.
