Iluziile unui secol

Pe bună dreptate la o primă vedere romanul Iluziile unui secol apare a fi unul biografic. Scheletul său narativ se axează pe întâmplările trăite de două familii pe parcursul a patru generaţii, respectiv timp de 120 de ani.
Dar, datorită faptului că cele două familii sunt una rusească de origine nobilă şi una germană de simpli meseriaşi şi, mai ales, datorită faptului că cei 120 de ani cuprind întregul secol XX, „desenul” dramaturgic al acestui roman – adevăratul său schelet! – ca şi câmpul semnificaţiilor ce se desprind la lectură se îmbogăţesc substanţial. Cu alte cuvinte: destinul celor două familii este doar un pretext pentru o privire critică asupra destinului secolului XX.

At first sight, quite rightly, the novel Illusions of a Century seems to be a biographical novel. Its narrative kernel focuses on events experienced by two families over four generations, covering a time span of 120 years.
However, as one of the two families consists of Russians of noble birth, while the other one of German tradesmen of modest origin, and as the time span covers the 20th century from beginning to end, the dramatic framework, i.e., the genuine narrative kernel, as well as the field of significances, benefit from a substantial increase in historical connotations. In other words, the destiny of the two families is just a pretext for a critical overview of the destiny of the 20th century.

Vladimir Brânduş este pseudonimul lui Thomas Brandsdörfer pentru scrierile sale în limba română.
Autorul s-a năsut în România ca fiu al uni german şi al unei rusoaice care în 1917 a fost obligată să-şi părăsească patria.
Din 1969 el este activ în domeniul artei şi al teoriei artei.
A fost actor, regizor, dramaturg, redactor şi a creat scenografie şi afişe. În Suedia a înfiinţat şi condus mai mulţi ani o galerie internaţională de artă.
El a publicat în reviste de specialitate, la televiziune şi Radio numeroase articole şi studii despre arte.
Autorul a scris în română sau în germană mai multe carţi teoretice si trei romane:
Artă şi critică în perspectivă comunica¬ţională (publicat în România, 1979).
Eseuri – numite de autor şi Panseluţe (publicat în România, 2006).
Frumoasa insulă, roman (publicat în România, 2006).
Gânduri altfel despre… scurte eseuri (publicat în România, 2007).
Iluziile unui secol, roman, (scris în 2007 şi prezentat aici)
Traducerea romanului Frumoasa insulă (publicat în Germania, 2008).
Ce şoptesc cuvintele, eseuri (scris în 2009 în germană şi publicat 2015).
Lacul alb, roman pe tema bolii numite Alzheimer (scris în germană 2010 - în curs de apariţie în Germania).
Plimbări printre idei şi emoţii 2013-2014, eseuri (scris în română si publicat în Germania 2015).
Din 1980 Thomas Brandsdörfer trăieşte şi lucrează în Düsseldorf.

Vladimir Brândus is Thomas Brandsdörfer’s literary pseudonym, which he uses for his Romanian writings. He was born in Romania; his father was German, his mother was Russian (forced to leave her native country in 1917).
The writer has been active in the field of art and the theory of art since 1969. His artistic career involves several aspects: he was an actor, a stage director, a dramatist, an editor and an art director (as such, he designed not only stage settings, but also artistic posters). He also initiated and managed an international art gallery in Sweden for several years.
He published numerous articles, essays and critical studies in specialized publications and presented them on TV and on the radio as well.
He wrote the following books in German and Romanian (five volumes containing collections of essays and three novels):

- Essays – also called Pansies (published in Romania, 2006)
- The Beautiful Island (a novel, published in Romania, 2006)
- Thoughts of a Different Kind on… (short essays, published in Romania, 2007)
- Illusions of a Century (a novel, written in 2007 and exhibited here)
- The Beautiful Island (translated into German and published in Germany, 2008)
- What Words Whisper (essays written in German in 2008 and published in 2015, BoD)
- The White Lake (a novel on the topic of Alzheimer disease, written in German in 2010, to be published in Germany by BoD)
- Walking through Ideas and Emotions 2013-2014 (essays written in Romanian and published in Germany in 2015, BoD)

Thomas Brandsdörfer has been living and working in Düsseldorf since 1980.
