Über den Autor

Ernest William Hornung, better known as E. W. Hornung (1866–1921), was an English author, most celebrated for his creation of the character A. J. Raffles, a gentleman thief in late Victorian England. A master of crime fiction and a pioneer of the gentleman-crook genre, Hornung's work is marked by a distinctive blend of suspense, wit, and a touch of romance. His literary career began with publications such as 'A Bride from the Bush' in 1890, but his fame was truly cemented with 'The Amateur Cracksman' in 1899, where Raffles made his first appearance. This collection was followed by 'The Black Mask' (1901) and 'A Thief in the Night' (1905), along with the novel 'Mr. Justice Raffles' (1909). Hornung's work is included in the 'E. W. HORNUNG Ultimate Collection', which showcases not only his novels and short stories but also his contributions in the form of war poems and memoirs, reflecting his diverse literary skills and his service in World War I, which deeply influenced his later works. Beyond the allure of his narratives, Hornung's writing provides insightful commentary on the social mores and complexities of Edwardian England. Acknowledged for his crisp narratives and well-rounded characters, Hornung remains a significant figure in the canon of British detective and crime literature.
