The dawn of Islam

In his deeply researched book, Ahmed Amin sheds light on the prosperous period of early Islamic history, tracing the expansion of Islamic conquests that embraced a rich and diverse array of civilizations and cultures. Amin discussed the impact of this enormous cultural diversity on the intellectual and civilizational march of the Islamic nation, especially during the Umayyad era, which was a melting pot of pre-Islamic, Islamic, Christian, Greek, Roman and Persian heritage, in addition to the influences of Indian religions. The book provides a detailed analysis of mental and cultural life from the dawn of Islam until the fall of the Umayyad state, explaining how this cultural mixture contributed to the formation and development of Islamic civilization.

أمين الريحاني، مفكر وأديب وروائي لبناني، ومن أبرز الشخصيات الرائدة في مجال الإصلاح الاجتماعي والفكر العربي خلال الفترة الممتدة بين أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين. لقب بالريحاني نسبة إلى الريحان الذي كان يحيط بمنزله. أبدع الريحاني في مجموعة متنوعة من الأجناس الأدبية مثل الشعر، الرواية، المقال، المسرح، السير الذاتية، وأدب الرحلات، بالإضافة إلى تأليفه في مجالات معرفية أخرى مثل الفلسفة، التاريخ، الاقتصاد، الاجتماع، والجغرافيا. كان أيضًا رسام كاريكاتير وممثل. عرف بمسيرته النضالية ضد الاحتلال الفرنسي ودعمه لاستقلال لبنان، مستخدمًا ثقافته الموسوعية في الدفاع عن قضايا وطنه. تُوفِّي الريحاني عام 1940، تاركًا وراءه إرثًا أدبيًا وعلميًا غزيرًا.
