Beyond the pleasure principle

In this book, Freud posits that "the process of creating living cells" binds energy and creates an imbalance. Pressuring matter to return to its original state is what gives cells their quality of life. The process is similar to charging and depleting a battery. This pressure for molecular diffusion can be called a "death wish." The compulsion of matter in cells to return to the uncirculated state extends to the entire organism. Thus, the psychological death wish is a manifestation of the basic physical compulsion present in every cell. Freud also mentioned the fundamental differences he saw between his approach and that of Carl Jung, and summarized the research published in Basic Motivations: "Beyond the Pleasure Principle is a difficult text." This is what Ernest Jones, one of Freud's closest associates and a member of his inner circle, said.
