Philosophy of Clothing

Thomas Carlyle, the author of this book, a writer and philosopher, says in the opening of his book, "Just as Montesquier wrote a book about the spirit of laws, I am writing a book about the spirit of clothing. Man does not proceed with blind chance, neither in enacting laws nor in sewing clothes. Rather, the working hand is still guided by the light of The mind is led by its control and you submit to its rulings. It all depends on the type of artistic idea in the design, whether it is Greek, ancient Gothic, late Gothic, or modern. What great meanings are implied in the colors of clothing, from dark black to blazing red, what spiritual properties and psychological qualities are revealed to you by the choice of colors! If the detail tells you about the nature of the mind and the mind, then the color tells you about the nature of the heart and mood. The first thing that prompted a person to wear clothes was not the desire for warmth or the need for modesty, but rather the love of adornment.
