Greek science (part one)
Über das eBook
Varentin's approach - the author of this book - in studying the history of Greek science and the history of science in general differs from the view of most authors and historians as well. While they were concerned with merely listing the opinions of ancient thinkers without linking these opinions with the circumstances of the societies in which they appeared. We see that Varentin believes that ideas are the results of material conditions in society, and therefore he is interested in analyzing these conditions in a deep way, which helps to understand the origins of ideas and follow them. While they view science as "knowledge for the sake of knowledge," Farentin believes that science is "a method of behavior through which man gains control over his environment," and that it is a weapon in the hands of humanity that is not only used with the intention of understanding its reality, but also to push this reality toward a better future.
Although a few prominent figures of thought have succeeded in analyzing the factors in the history of Greek science in a convincing material analysis, a rare group among these few is the one that was able to present this topic simply, deeply, and to some extent with clarity. However, this rare category did not reach the level reached by Varentin.
