This novel restores forgotten aspects of the city of Tangier, through multi-dimensional characters, living in several times, from the Tasmanian, my uncle Maimoun, Samia, and Al-Sahib, where the features of Tangier characters are revealed, living their anxiety and aspiration for a different life, to Nizi, Adolfo, Maria, and Mr. Hoffman, as foreign characters who lived in the city. At a time when it was international, in which nationalities and religions coexisted, to Mr. Hercules, who lives his legend in a city located at the top of the African continent, and then leaves himself to live another life in another Tangier, full of noise and violence, the details of whose places and space he builds the world of the novel.
"Caves" is a novel that embodies the reality and myth of the city of Tangier, through the imagination of a novelist open to all kinds of interpretation. The caves are the caves of the secret life of the city that are discovered in other caves, which are the caves of blood, dreams, and nightmares, and the caves of writing itself.
Perhaps, due to the magic of the subject of this novel, and its writing, as a novelist, of the history of an ambiguous city, with many facets and dimensions, it was published in several editions, translated into French and Spanish, and was well received by critics in research and studies, and that is what made us republish it and present it to readers in a new guise.
