The Crown in the Ethics of Kings
Über das eBook
This book contains between its two covers a lot of literature and traditions known in the era of Al-Jahiz. It was like a mirror in which the scenes of the lives of the caliphs and princes were revealed in their parties, their private affairs, their stories in their sleepless nights, what they used to do in the theaters of their amusement and the hotbeds of their mirth, their entertainment gatherings in songs and chatting, and their gatherings in foreplay and playfulness. And their royal ways and special political systems that the Arabs borrowed from the Persians and other nations, especially during the reign of Al-Ma'mun, which shows the great influence that the Persian civilization had on the Islamic civilization during the era of the Abbasids.
The book explains the etiquette of entering upon kings, pleading with them, and the characteristics of remorse, and the good manners that kings must have with their subjects, in both cases of joking and seriousness. In the folds of his book, he mentions some hadiths and anecdotes, which he derives from Arab history at times, and from Persian history. Other times, he spoke about the morals of kings and peoples, regardless of their lands.
The importance of the book lies in that it represents a precious piece of the literary heritage in political thought.
