In this book, critic Muhammad Mandour did not limit himself to critical articles on the novels or collections of Al-Hakim, Bishr Fares, Ali Mahmoud Taha, Mahmoud Taymour, and Taha Hussein, but rather, in each hadith, he addressed a general issue such as myths and their use as material for poetry or stories, the art of style, realistic literature, the problem of reality in the story... and so on. . In every conversation, he appreciated what we do and what Europeans do without courtesy or prejudice, as he distinguished between two types of knowledge: there is literary and linguistic knowledge and this is the basis. Reading the works of great poets and writers is the way to develop the faculty of literature in the souls, and there is no other way. Provided that reading is a lesson, understanding, and tasting. As for other types of knowledge other than that, such as psychological, social, ethical, and historical studies, and so on, even though they are of great benefit in educating the writer in general culture and expanding his horizons, he does not want it to overshadow his study of literature as a linguistic art.
Mandour says, "I believe that literature must be independent in its method from other sciences, and that it is dangerous to apply the method of any other science to it, or to adopt the formal theories that scholars in other fields say."
