Poets and narrators, he was famous for being one of the people of understanding mentioned in knowledge, who wrote extensively, and was known for his intelligence and quality of eloquence. He was born in Baghdad at the time of Al-Ma'mun Al-Abbasi's entry into Baghdad from Khorasan. He received knowledge and narration from the imams of his time, especially Omar bin Shabah, the narrator and hadith narrator, and his son Ubaid Allah narrated from him. He followed his father's method in classification and writing. He worked for a period as a colloquial book editor, then he specialized and sat copying books in the Al-Waraqeen market on the eastern side of Baghdad, and did not expand his work. He reached the last days of Caliph Al-Muhtadi, and then his son Ubayd Allah added after him the news of Al-Mu'tamid, Al-Mu'tadid, Al-Kuttafi, and Al-Muqtadir. Ahmed bin Tayfour died in Baghdad and was buried in the Bab al-Sham cemetery.
