Faust
Über das eBook
In "Faust," the poet imitates the Torah in the Book of Job, creating a dialogue between God and Satan about man's love for God and his power to be faithful to Him. This dialogue ended with Faustus, a proof between God and Satan, the subject of which was this eminent scholar, Dr. Faust, whose love for God and science was sincere. The devil claims that he is able to tempt him, so the devil rushes to Faustus, and he encounters him at a bad hour in his life. He is tired of science and has given up on it, and religion is unable to entertain him and give him what he aspired to of understanding the secret of life and being reassured by it. He continues to negotiate with him until he concludes a covenant between them.
Satan becomes a slave to Faust, allowing him everything he wants and giving him all the pleasures of life he desires...but do the events stop there?!
It is strange that you find Goethe to be the truest representative of Dr. Faust's weakness and strength, and of Margaret's weakness and strength, just as you find him to be the truest representative of Satan's rebellion and pride. What strangeness is this? Isn't it Goethe who created Faust, Margaret, and Satan?
