Education and the future

This book does not address issues of primary, technical, university, or secondary education, except for a separate chapter I devote to examining the latter type. This is because these different branches of education have become well-established and have strong foundations, even if they are subject to development and improvement.
As for the greatest need and greatest opportunity for education, they exist in another field. The urgent and serious dilemma is to grant the vast majority of the nation a type of higher education that includes, among other things, the study of human ideals and the best products of the mind, which we call literature, history, and political science, and the study of the material universe, which we call Sciences, because these subjects are necessary and indispensable in some form for a complete human education. The vast majority of the nation does not currently find the opportunity to study it. How can this situation be changed? This dilemma is the most dangerous and important of our educational topics today, and it constitutes the main topic of this book, which does not attempt to examine the ins and outs of organization, but rather suggests the principles that must be followed.
