Leo Tolstoy, the famous Russian writer, one of the giants of world literature. He contributed greatly to the great renaissance that Russian literature witnessed during the nineteenth century. His father was Count Nikolai Tolstoy, and his mother was Princess Volkonskaya, who descended from the Rurik dynasty, the first ruler in the history of Russia.
Tolstoy grew up in an aristocratic family, but he rebelled against his class and took many bold stances, such as giving up his wealth and opposing the church. In the last stage of his life, he became more like a moral and religious leader. He participated in the Crimean War and expressed his views on the stark contrasts during the war in his series of books called "Sebastopol Tales." When the Crimean War ended, he left the army and returned to Russia, where he discovered how his popularity was booming in the Petersburg literary scene. He spent most of the 1960s In the 19th century, he wrote his novel "War and Peace," which served as a historical picture of Russia and Russian society during the Napoleonic Wars.
After that, he began writing his other famous novel, "Anna Karenina," some of whose events were derived from Tolstoy's personal life, especially his relationship with his wife during the engagement period. Despite the great success of his novels, he suffered from a spiritual crisis that amounted to depression. He was busy trying to find answers to his questions about the meaning of life.
