I am writing to you from Damascus
Über das eBook
A Moroccan copyist with good handwriting and knowledge, living in the city of Fez in the twelfth century AD, receives an invitation to participate in the collective copying of the book "The History of Damascus," which is in eighty volumes, of which he will receive ten volumes. That is, the transcription team will include eight transcribers. Since the Moroccan copyist received this invitation, he has been preparing financially and psychologically: asking and reading about Umm al-Sham, on the authority of Ibn Asakir. In the midst of preparation, he presents an expanded map of the art of copying in Morocco. The narration advances, and with it the narrator's circumstances advance: How does he abandon his wife and his beloved, "Umm al-Eid," and leave her in Fez? How will Damascus receive him? How will he meet Al-Hafiz Ibn Asakir? Who are the scribes who will share the copying process with him? Through the narrative answer to these questions, the novel presents a cognitive and imaginative atmosphere about imagined Damascus, about Ibn Asakir as depicted in the minds of Moroccans, about copying, about the hotels in which the Moroccan copyist will stay.
