The history of Egypt from the Ottoman conquest to the British occupation
Über das eBook
Ever since its authority in Asia Minor was established, the Ottoman Empire was on friendly terms with the Egyptian Circassian Mamluk state, with truce contracts taking place between their sultans. This began during the era of Sultan al-Zahir Barquq of Egypt and his contemporary, Sultan Yildirim "Bayezid" of the Ottoman Empire.
Things remained like this until the time of Sultan Bayezid II, son of Muhammad the Conqueror. When his brother, Prince Jam, disputed with him about the kingship, Bayezid fought him and defeated his armies. Jam fled to Al-Ashraf Qaytbay, Sultan of Egypt, for refuge, so he granted him permission. Bayezid asked to hand him over to him, but Qaytbay did not answer him, so he became angry with him. This added to the dispute existing between them over the Emirate of the Sons of Dhu al-Ghader, which was under the protection of Egypt, and then the Ottoman Empire intervened in its affairs and claimed its protection. Bayezid used various pretexts to declare war on the Egyptian State, so he prepared a great army that penetrated into the Levantine country to the vicinity of Aleppo. Where an Egyptian army met him; The Ottomans were defeated, so he followed him with another army, the outcome of which was the same as the previous one. The Egyptian army marched on the Ottoman lands and met the Ottoman army of Jarar, and the war between them was a dispute for a period that ended in peace and reconciliation, but it became a reason for competition and competition between the two countries to extend influence and leadership over the Islamic kingdoms.
