Dream Island
Über das eBook
This novel is considered one of the literary gems of the English writer William Somerset Maugham, who is considered one of the leading voices in early twentieth-century English literature and one of the highest-grossing writers of the 1930s. Maugham, known for his diverse works ranging from novels, plays, and political books, derived inspiration for his writings from his acute observations of people during his many travels, which gave his works a distinctive realistic character.
After the success of his first novel, Maugham turned to writing plays, and despite repeated rejection from theater directors for his comic novels, he did not give up and continued until he achieved great success with "Lady Frederick," a play that tells the story of a young man who falls in love with an older woman. Several other sitcoms followed, all of which were huge successes.
With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Maugham joined the British Military Medical Service in France, then moved to work within British Intelligence, where he was inspired by his experiences there to write his novel "When I Was a Spy". This novel shows another dimension of Maugham's multi-talentedness and the impact of his personal experiences on His literary works.
