Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan

The following pages deal with examining the biography of Muawiyah. They are not a narration of his history, nor a record of his deeds, nor an exposition of the events of his time. Rather, they are an appreciation of him and justice to the historical truth and the human truth as seen by the diligent person who seeks and scrutinizes it. We can almost say that it is seen by those who do not strive to distance themselves from it, hide its features, and reconcile it with the extraneous things of his whims, whether he wants or does not want. Some historians after the Umayyad era until our time do that when they look at this period. They are mistaken by their style and by their eagerness to obey their whims, as if they were the creations of the state during its rule and among its lavish gifts, and its men, between whom ties of affection, lineage, and bonds of mutual support in demands and excuses are held between them and their contemporaries.
