Opium of the People

Karl Marx and his followers say: Religions are the opium of the people, and people accept religion because it numbs them and distracts them from the misery of life... This nonsense statement about religion is the last description that can be applied to it, and the first description that can be applied to the doctrine of Karl Marx in all its meanings.
The feeling of responsibility and intoxicants are two opposites, and there is no religion that does not awaken in the soul of the religious person a present feeling of responsibility in secret and in public, makes him wary of committing sins between himself and his conscience, and suggests to the poor and the rich alike that they will not deserve the reward of heaven without work and without reward.
What is different is this, and what those who say: Religion numbs a person, just as intoxicants and opium drugs numb him.
